The amount you pay for medical expenses for a covered person each year before the plan pays for eligible expenses.

Only covered health expenses count toward the deductible.

[edit] Annual Family Deductible

The amount you pay for medical expenses each year for your family before the plan pays expenses for covered family members. The maximum each person can contribute to the family deductible is the individual deductible amount.

[edit] Aggregate Family Deductible

This term is used with High Deductible Health Plans and it applies to family coverage. If the aggregate family deductible is $2,600.00 either one person must incur $2,600 in expenses to satisfy the deductible, or the entire family must incur combined expenses totaling $2,600, before the Plan pays on behalf of any member of the family. This is different than the traditional health plans where the annual family deductible can be satisfied by combining covered expenses for each covered family member, but no one family member has to contribute more than the individual deductible.
